What is chair massage? This is a type of massage performed while you are fully clothed and seated in a special padded chair facing forward with support for your head, chest, stomach and arms. This position allows full access to your back, shoulders, neck, head, arms, and hands.
Are chair massages effective? Yes! It is a great way to experience the benefits of massage when you have a limited amount of time.
What should I expect during my chair massage? You remain fully clothed (however you may wish to remove any jackets or bulky sweaters). The therapist will instruct you on positioning on the chair, and focus on the muscles of your back, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. If you have any special areas of pain or discomfort, you are encouraged to express your concerns to your therapist as well as communicate your preferences with pressure. Notify your therapist of medications you are taking, and if you have a non-contagious skin condition or areas you want to avoid, such as bruises, sunburn, etc.
What are the benefits of chair massage? Stress reduction, pain relief, improved circulation, increased energy, better mental clarity, enhanced mood, decreased blood pressure, and relaxation.
Who should NOT get a chair massage? If you have any of the following conditions:
• sick • fever • severe osteoporosis • open sores • contagious skin condition • rash • infectious disease • recent surgery or injury • blood clot or DVT
You may need to consult your physician if you are pregnant or have cancer, or if you have any concerns as to whether massage is safe or appropriate for you.
